Brandt Douglas von Krieger, MBA, PMP, MNI

Owner & Principal Consultant

Brandt Douglas von Krieger is a senior maritime professional whose work bridges operational leadership, applied research, and strategic advisory practice. His experience spans more than fifteen years across maritime operations, emergency management, environmental response, and large-scale program delivery, with a consistent focus on how regulatory frameworks, governance structures, and real-world decision-making shape risk outcomes in complex marine environments.

His career began in frontline maritime operations, where he commanded vessels in challenging conditions and led high-consequence emergency and pollution response activities. Over time, this operational foundation expanded into senior leadership roles responsible for complex programs involving marine logistics, infrastructure readiness, environmental planning, and multi-party coordination. He has worked closely with public sector organizations, Indigenous governments, port authorities, environmental response agencies, industry partners, and municipal leadership on initiatives that demand disciplined execution, sound judgment, and credibility across diverse stakeholder groups. In recognition of his operational leadership at sea, he was awarded the Canadian Coast Guard Command at Sea Rosette.

Alongside this professional practice, Brandt has pursued formal academic and analytical work to better understand the institutional and policy environments in which maritime operations occur. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Maritime Operations, awarded with Distinction by the University of Plymouth. His graduate research examined the establishment of ship recycling facilities in British Columbia, with particular attention to regulatory approval processes, economic risk drivers, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with international instruments such as the Basel and Hong Kong Conventions. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research combined qualitative stakeholder interviews with policy and regulatory analysis to explore the practical barriers and enabling conditions for sustainable maritime asset disposal.

Brandt also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Athabasca University and has completed the Executive Finance Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. This training has strengthened his approach to capital investment, corporate finance, and risk-adjusted decision-making, particularly in infrastructure-intensive and highly regulated sectors.

His professional qualifications include Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma Black Belt, STCW maritime certifications, and former formal designations as a Canadian Coast Guard Pollution Response Officer and Rescue Specialist. These credentials support his work in incident command systems, safety and environmental management, organizational resilience, and the governance of high-reliability organizations operating under regulatory and environmental constraints.

Brandt is the author of Navigating Complexity: Maritime Lessons for Project Management Across Industries, Maritime Emergency Leadership: Response, Recovery, and Risk Management, and From Concept to Compliance: Navigating the Regulatory Approval Process for Ship Recycling in British Columbia, Canada. His writing draws directly from operational experience and applied research, translating complex maritime challenges into practical frameworks for risk governance, environmental performance, and executive decision-making.

His current interests include maritime safety and environmental governance, ship recycling and circular-economy policy, emergency preparedness and response systems, and stakeholder engagement in contested regulatory environments. Across his advisory and consulting work, he is known for remaining composed under pressure, building durable consensus, and helping organizations navigate complex strategic problems with clarity, structure, and integrity.
